How It Works

In Switzerland, any modification made to a vehicle must comply with legal requirements in order to be approved for road use. This applies in particular to bodywork and aerodynamic components such as front splitters, diffusers, side skirts, and rear spoilers

The objective is straightforward: prove that the part is compatible with the vehicle and that it meets Swiss technical and safety regulations.

The DTC (Dynamic Test Center) is an officially recognized Swiss testing organization. It carries out evaluations and tests depending on the type of part and the vehicle concerned.

Once the part is approved, a DTC homologation certificate or test report is issued. This document serves as official proof during inspections and significantly simplifies the approval process with the Cantonal Road Traffic Office.

Registration Procedure and Vehicle Documentation

Requirements may vary slightly between cantons, but the process is generally straightforward when using homologated parts.

1) Professional Installation

We strongly recommend installation by a qualified workshop or garage.

  • The part must be installed securely and correctly
  • The identification label must be affixed as required

  • If pedestrian protection applies, the installer completes and signs the relevant section

2) Preparing Your File

Before contacting your Cantonal Road Traffic Office, prepare:

  • All DTC homologation certificates and documents provided with the part
  • The vehicle registration document (registration card / carte grise), which contains all required vehicle details
  • vehicle modification application form, (Each canton provides its own ) which you can download directly from your cantonal Road Traffic Office website.

3) Submitting the Modification to the Cantonal Road Traffic Office

Send your complete file to the Road Traffic Office of the canton where your vehicle is registered.

  • Each canton has its own official modification request form
  • The Road Traffic Office will inform you of the next steps and registration procedure
  • Swiss regulations require that vehicle modifications be declared to the Cantonal Road Traffic Office without undue delay after installation. Cantonal requirements may vary, which is why homologated parts significantly simplify the process. (Some cantons may specify an indicative deadline of 14 days. We recommend contacting your Cantonal Road Traffic Office directly to confirm local requirements.)

4) Registration and Vehicle Presentation

Your Cantonal Road Traffic Office will schedule an appointment for you to present the vehicle with the installed part and the homologation documents. During this appointment, the authorities will verify compliance and update the registration accordingly.

  • After inspection the modification is registered directly
  • Or you can choose to combined with a technical inspection appointment (MFK)
  • If you are planning additional modifications such as wheels or suspension components, we strongly recommend completing all modifications at the same time.

5) Vehicle Registration Update

Once approved, the modification is officially recorded in the vehicle registration system, allowing you to drive fully legally with your homologated parts.
